We had a great Advent and Christmas this year because we decided to keep it simple. (Honestly, we had no choice! With a newborn in the house, we couldn't get much done.) We only put up Advent things until the night before Christmas Eve. Then the tree got decorated and other Christmas things went up. Chris had the entire week of Christmas off, which gave me some extra time to make several batches of different kinds of cookies with Marie and Jaci. It was so much fun to spend time with them doing that. On Christmas Eve morning we opened our family gifts to each other. The "school girls" shopped for the family at the school's Santa's workshop. They got such unique gifts for everyone. We got the family a large popcorn maker for our movie nights. As we opened our gifts the snow was falling big and fast, making for a picture perfect Christmas Eve setting. After cleaning up a bit we started getting ready for Mass and dinner. We left the house at 2:30 for 4:00 Mass. Despite such a long wait at church, everyone did very well. Marie sang in the choir and excitement was in the air! The Madden family joined us at church and then back at the house for ham dinner. Here's some pictures from Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day was very exciting as everyone couldn't wait to open the gifts Santa had given. The big gift Santa left for the family was a Wii game system. The screams could be heard all the way to Chicago. After presents we set up the Wii, played for awhile, then headed to Chicago to celebrate Christmas with the York families. We spent Friday with the Gabel side before cutting our trip short and heading back early due to Lily being sick. Saturday morning we woke up to Lily, Isaac and Teresa trying to manage through one of the worst upper respiratory viruses we've seen yet. Fevers, horrible coughs, total congestion, and it's still going. We've already been in to the doctor once but might have to head back again soon because we've seen it go downhill. It's been a tough week and our all our plans for this week have been cancelled. It hasn't been a fun week off for the girls, but it has been nice to have to slow down and hang out at home together. We'll keep you posted on the virus and when it hits the road.
